Registered Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. If utilized early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury, massage therapy can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterns.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is the insertion of sterile needles into specific anatomical sites in the body in order to treat musculoskeletal injuries. Electro-stimulation can be added to the treatment in order to increase its benefits.  Acupuncture is a treatment that goes beyond the skin and impacts the CNS (central nervous system) to help regulate the pain control centers in the brain.  Acupuncture releases endorphins (the body's natural pain killers) which in turn allows the body's natural healing process to take place.  Acupuncture is a pain free procedure helpful in the treatment of many common conditions that present in a chiropractic clinic.

Modalities
The Chiropractor uses a variety of modalities to assist in treating the patient.  At Dalhousie Health and Wellness we are pleased to offer IFC (Interferential current: gentle electrical impulses that pass below the skin to decrease pain and help speed up recovery), TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation: a gentle electrical current is passed through the skin to decrease pain), EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation: a deeper form of muscle stimulation that aids in muscular contraction) and Thumper (a tool used to massage soft tissues).
